Lower limit of total serum iron test (TSI) for newborn is 100µg/dL (or 18 μmol/L).

Babies who had lower iron levels had lower scores on tests that measured mental functioning and motor skills.

Include an iron-rich diet during pregnancy. Be aware that red meat is the best source of iron.
