IRON DEFICIENCY IN BLOOD TEST FOR WOMEN. What does low iron level in blood mean for female?

Lower limit of total serum iron test (TSI) for female is 26µg/dL (or 4.6 μmol/L).

Women of childbearing age may acquire iron deficiency anemia because they lose significant amounts of blood each month during their menstrual cycle. Women have a higher risk of iron deficiency compared with men.

Anemia is sometimes treatable, but certain types of anemia may be lifelong. If the cause is dietary iron deficiency, eating more iron-rich foods will usually correct the anemia. Alternatively, intravenous iron can be administered.
